Fun With Film
My mom sent me her Nikon FM shortly before Christmas. Oh was I antsy to get my hands on some film! So I used rolls from loong long ago. The scans from those rolls weren't bad but it was very much a beginners roll. :o) These are scans from my first non-expired rolls of Portra 400. So at this point I'm discovering the unique features of this camera. My sister also sent her Canon film camera to me so I'm looking forward to finishing off the roll she had in there and then getting started with another roll of Portra and see how that camera reacts. I think it will be a fun little hobby (requiring a lot of patience, especially since the Nikon does not auto focus!). So here are some scans from the two rolls of Portra I've gone through already! It's still a work in progress for me but it's so fun and a great creative break for me!
The above image was only adjusted in terms of adding a hint of warmth but I love the candid (rather in focus) image of her walking her baby to the mailbox with her daddy!
I did not use black and white film, this was one I just felt needed to be converted to black and white!

Shadows of the Past
I always feel vulnerable doing something out of my comfort zone and this was one of those things. I really wanted to play with my off camera flash and incorporate my former life as a ballet dancer. So it's a bit more artistic than my usual lifestyle work but I take my job as a photographer seriously and dont like to pass up any opportunity to learn (o:

Christmas With My Two Loves
Christmas this year was magical because my daughter could rip into her presents and squeal with glee at all the new goodies! We have been trying very hard to keep her from tearing open gifts before Christmas that she was so confused why she could now tear them open! Needless to say she will very much enjoy her birthday in a couple months :oP
As you can see above, we started the day off with chocolate iced cinnamon rolls. Zoey loved them if you can't tell :oP
Christmas Kisses!!! My favorite!!
Christmas walk. She's being a good momma and adjusting the shade!
A Rare Snow Day In El Paso!
I absolutely love snow and live in the desert. Ah luck of the draw :oP But I do seem to have luck! The past two years in the desert we have had at least one snow day! Zoey was old enough this year to be aware and enjoy the fluffy white stuff falling from the sky! I think aside from the temperature she absolutely loved the day! She took her pram out in the snow, and threw snowballs with her daddy, and got hot chocolate! It was a beautiful, wonderful day that I will treasure!!

Playing Around
Been reading a lot about photographers playing around with objects in front of their lenses like shooting through leaves or putting a sheet of paper over a portion of the lens to give a dream-like, sneaking up feel to the image. So while playing with my daughter I found this paper towel roll and chased her while looking through it. Thought it might be fun to stick in front of my camera because it's always fun to look through without a camera!

Inspiration On The Farm: The People
Last part in my Inspiration On The Farm series: The People. I saved the best for last (o:
I pretty much went into the weekend feeling like the novice who didn't have her business really up and running (though all the paperwork was there, the timidity was still looming) among all these professionals who knew what they were doing. Very intimidating. But once I saw the smiles on their faces and the sweetness they all possessed I felt sooo at ease and way more confident the way they accepted me as an equal!
To say the girls were sweet, gorgeous, talented and insanely hilarious is a gross understatement. We had moments where laughter turned to snorting and showing pictures resulted in 'oooooh, I LOVE that!' They were just amazing to be around and to learn from. It was not a formal workshop but more of a weekend of a bunch of girls with an intense passion for photography running around the country taking as many pictures as we could! One main thing I noticed some of us are big picture people and some are detail people. I love how unique all of us as photographers can be and, to me, that's what is so amazing about photography!
Again, I am not great with words So I hope the images I caught of some of these girls can help show the beauty, inside and out, that they possess. I am truly grateful to this community of girls and the friendships I have made with them. It means more to me than I will ever be able to express
