Inspiration On The Farm: The Sessions

_LM57212-11wm

While it was not a formal workshop Jennifer Warthan ask a couple friends if they would come over and sit for a session with ten photographers! Eek talk about intimidating! (see below)

The family was so sweet and once the little boys warmed up to all the cameras they were so animated and sweet! The little girl was turning 1 in two weeks and just adored the kittens! She was just so absolutely sweet and had an amazing smile! All around it was a wonderful session, with gorgeous light, on a gorgeous farm, what more could you ask for?!?! (o:

Jennifer took us out scouting with her adorable children so we got a few sweet shots of them playing in the puddles! <3

Inspiration On The Farm: The Scenery

LM4_6940-9

First of all I would like to apologize for my lack of blogging as of late. I recently launched my photography business and a sewing business and all the set-up for the two has taken up all my time.

Back in November I joined a wonderful group of girls for a weekend on Warthan Farms. It was not a formal workshop but pretty much a girls weekend where we all have one intense passion: photography. I am going to blog my weekend in three parts so as to not overload you with images!

Coming from the desert it was soooo beautiful in Virginia! It was pretty much the tail-end of autumn colors but they were still there and I devoured them! Warthan Farms still had their cotton unharvested so we took advantage of it's beauty for our photographs! The farmhouse is just beautiful; everything this city girl would hope the country would be like! Their cat had four little kittens running around that I just fell in love with!

I honestly wish I were better with words so I could give you wonderful, rich descriptions of the house, the land, the country, just everything, but words just have never been my strong suit so I will let my images speak for me <3

The Desert

Found some time today and last night to edit a little session I had with my daughter. We found a little spot close to home that I'm honestly pretty please with! I just love trees and grass and green but for the desert I think this will do! And when there are clouds in the sky to reflect the sunset opposite them, ah l'amore! <3

So with finding desert locations comes desert editing. I'm practicing and playing and finding the sweet spots for me. Above is a bit of a fun edit with some light leaks (thanks to Anna Gay!). Below are edits that represent my happy place. Photographers are ever evolving and learning but I feel this is the foundation of what I'd like my style be. (o:

Side note: that's a dress I made :o) I'm loving sewing and hope she grows into it perfectly for Christmas!

Morgans at the Park

I am really trying to get serious about getting my business up and running, but just taking pictures in my backyard isn't going to help me when it comes to paying clients so with baby and hubby in tow I dragged them to this park I spotted last week. Made sure it was the 'golden hour' (well a little before since the mountain block the real golden hour for us on this side of the mountains) and I set the baby and hubby loose to watch them interact and have fun. I really want to be minimally hands-on when it comes to photographing families so I can catch their candid interactions with one another. <3

I will say while editing this set I felt so at peace with my final results and so much closer to 'my style' of editing. I still have a little tweaking to do but I think with calibration (oh yes, another element of photography I didn't know about until recently) it might help with what I see when editing versus what gets uploaded and eventually sent off to printers! But it's amazing how playing with the sunlight can add a whole new element to an image, so much magic, and I'm realizing I want to bring magic to people's images. Not necessarily in the literal sense as the post a few posts down but in that feeling you get when you look at an image, like above. Birds flying behind her, 'sparkling' as the sun hits their wings. Zoey standing in her most model-y pose surrounded by the haze of the sunlight. That's the kind of magic I hope to bring: natural magic <3

So I hope you enjoy these images! I've been excited to post these for a couple days now and finally found the time! <3

Unimpressed with daddy

More impressed with daddy!

Loving daddy

And sharing with daddy, well after taking it from him first :oP

My goodness, she is adorable (but I am a bit biased :oP)

Who needs a big hug? Sure looks like Kermie does!

Dancing with Kermie

Had to turn her dress pink for a couple images so she could be the Miss Piggy to her Kermie <3
